HIPAA
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal
law that becomes effective on April 14, 2003 and will significantly affect
Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership (MBHP) providers and Members.
HIPAA aims to protect a patient's personal health information and provide
increased access to medical records. In addition, the law improves access to
long-term care services, promotes the use of medical savings accounts, and
confronts fraud and abuse in health care.
As a result of this law, providers must determine their compliance with HIPAA
requirements and modify their business operations accordingly. Please contact
hipaa@masspartnership.com if you have questions or concerns about
HIPAA.
