Rapid Admission Incentive (RAI)
The Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership's (MBHP) inpatient Rapid Admission Incentive (RAI)
is aimed at increasing access to inpatient mental health and substance use disorder services.
Through this initiative, MBHP will make incentive payments to inpatient mental health, Intensive
Community-Based Acute Treatment (ICBAT), and Level IV Acute Treatment Service (ATS) providers for
rapid acceptance for admission without delay. This will add to the many efforts that are underway
in the Commonwealth to mitigate the problem of persons waiting, often in hospital emergency departments
(EDs) and sometimes for lengthy periods of time, for admission to inpatient behavioral health units.
