Access to Care Best Practice Urgent Outpatient Provider Presentations
This Performance Incentive project for FY2009 involved the development of an urgent outpatient pilot program with a goal of increasing Members'
access to community-based, urgent behavioral health services and decreasing utilization of hospital Emergency Departments (EDs) and Emergency Service Programs (ESPs).
Based on stakeholder recommendations and feedback, MBHP developed a best practice clinical and practice management model as well as a payment mechanism to enable network
outpatient providers to offer "unscheduled" urgent outpatient care to Members already enrolled in their clinics as well as those newly seeking services at the clinic.
MBHP identified one outpatient behavioral health pilot provider for each region.

This 'Best Practices' urgent outpatient care model was presented to the outpatient behavioral health provider
community during regional trainings in April and May 2009.
MBHP presented an overview of the PI, and the pilot providers
presented their urgent outpatient models to the outpatient provider community.
